Bone Grafting

Bone grafting for dental implants.

Bone grafting is a safe and successful procedure that is used to rebuild the jawbone for dental implants and other periodontal procedures. It is now common practice to use an allograft bone (from a cadaver or animal) or your own bone from a different location in your mouth to help regrow the jawbone deficiencies.

There are no known transmissions of diseases from dental bone grafts used in current practices. It can take several months for the transplanted bone to grow enough new bone to support a dental implant, depending on the location of the graft and density of the bone.

Sometimes this is a necessity for patients who have been missing teeth for a long time or if patients have had infections that have eroded away some of the jawbone. It is an amazing technology which allows patients to become candidates for fixed implants as opposed to partials or dentures.
